Brazilian Slate Elterdale Grey

Brazilian Slate

Slate extracted in Brazil is one of the best quality slates in the world. The industry itself is now the world’s second-biggest producer and is favoured for the geological attributes which have produced high-quality and superior rock.

95% of Brazilian slate is extracted from the Minas Gerais region, which is around 450km north of Rio de Janeiro. This is the exact region that UK Slates own Elterdale Grey Green slate begins its journey.

Here are just some of the reasons why Brazilian slate is the perfect addition to your property:

  • Superior quality

Brazilian slate offers one of the most robust and durable slates on the market. They have high resistance to the damage that can occur from the likes of heavy foot traffic when these slates are used as floor tiles. You also can expect them to last for a long time even while exposed to the elements in the form of roof tiles.

  • Aesthetic appeal

Brazilian slates are beautiful and come in a wide variety of styles to suit many different aesthetic preferences. They can be both rough or smooth and shiny, allowing people to find textures to suit their needs. Brazilian slate doesn’t lose its appeal as it ages, if anything, it only becomes more beautiful after years of use.

  • Wide colour variety

Some varieties of slate are only available in one colour, but Brazilian slate comes in a wide range of shades and colours such as green, cyan, blue and purple. So regardless of your colour and shade preference, you are likely to find what you’re looking for in Brazilian slate.

Elterdale Grey Green

Elterdale Grey Green slate is composed of natural sedimentary stone with excellent consistency, meaning that it splits very cleanly. The natural stone is perfect for roofing or flooring purposes, due to its durable quality that retains its sturdy qualities against all weather conditions.

An economical option, these slate tiles look exceptional when paired with a range of mixed materials in the home.

This exceptional slate hails from the finest slate beds in the Paraopeba Valley near Papagaios, which is deep in the Amazon Rainforest. The humid climate has, over time, allowed for a fantastic natural product, and we are exceptionally excited to be able to offer it to our customers.

The quarrying process is unique. In all extraction methods, extreme care must be taken, as the process affects the material integrity. Traditional methods utilise charges and detonations to ascertain the desired rock, however, with Elterdale Grey Green, the highest level of care is taken to machine cut large slabs out of the rock face, in turn producing a more cost-effective slate with minimal wastage. The slate is then hand split by experienced craftsmen to create consistent slates in thickness and texture.

The slate can be used in various areas around the home such as roofing, due to the bold non-fading colour, and flat, consistent nature requiring minimal grading. These versatile tiles can also be used in flooring indoor and out, or even in landscaping and architectural designs.
