Throughout 2023 and into 2024, this project was carefully planned and delivered in partnership with our customer, Thomas Armstrong Limited. Our Sales Manager, Neil Purcell, worked closely with the team on site, providing design input and guidance to ensure the finished landscaping complemented both the property and its Lake District surroundings.
The scale and complexity of the work required many bespoke pieces, which were manufactured at the Stone Workshop in Ulverston. Using Brazilian Ravendale and Elterdale slate, we supplied paving, tumbled setts, steps and seating, all tailored to the client’s exact specifications. Particular attention was given to fine details such as plucked edges for step treads and wall copings, ensuring a high-quality and consistent finish across the site.

Ravendale and Elterdale slates were chosen for their rich colour and versatility, qualities that worked especially well against the background of the main house and the surrounding fells. Their strength and adaptability made them suitable for precision cutting, while their natural tones helped create a scheme that feels both unique and in keeping with the landscape.
The project also highlights our ability to cut and machine slate in the UK, as well as to source bespoke sizes directly from the quarry in Brazil when required. This flexibility allowed us to deliver materials that met the client’s design vision while maintaining the durability and performance expected of natural slate.
The result is a striking landscaped area that combines practicality with beauty, framed by the Lake District views. From the bespoke paving to the seating and step layouts, every element reflects the care and collaboration that went into the project.

We were delighted to be involved in this scheme and proud of the outcome. It demonstrates how natural slate can be tailored to the most demanding designs, offering both resilience and timeless appeal.
