The homeowners wanted a unique outdoor feature that would act as a focal point in their garden while providing a welcoming space for entertaining. To achieve the design, precisely cut slate copings were required to create a smooth, circular finish. Working alongside our colleagues at Stone Workshop in Ulverston, we manufactured the bespoke slate components to meet the exact requirements of the project.

Slate was chosen for its durability, weather resistance and natural appearance, ensuring the firepit would blend seamlessly into the landscaped setting while offering long-term resilience. Its versatility also allowed us to shape the copings to the detailed specifications of the design.
The Installation was carried out by Longstock Landscapes, with the design left by Arbour Landscape Solutions. Their expertise, combined with the quality of the slate, resulted in a firepit that is both practical and visually striking. The finished piece demonstrates how natural slate can be adapted for bespoke architectural features, bringing lasting character to outdoor spaces.
In Norfolk, a customer designed their own water feature using Ravendale Blue Grey slate. The piece was produced with a chiselled border and a hand-cut sunburst design, with channels cut into the reverse to house water pipes for a flush fit against an existing wall. This project demonstrates how natural slate can be adapted into unique, practical features.
At Raglan Golf Club in Usk, South Wales, we supplied a 1200 x 900mm Ravendale slate slab engraved with the club’s logo. Installed at the entrance, the engraved slate provides a strong first impression for visitors. The natural riven surface offers a non-slip finish, while leaving the engraving unpainted ensures minimal maintenance and allows the piece to weather naturally.

We also provided a Ravendale octagonal base and centrepiece to support a life-size statue of a Royal Welsh Fusilier and regimental goat, created by sculptor Nick Elphick. The statue now stands proudly outside Hightown Barracks in Wrexham, with the slate base providing both strength and a sympathetic finish for such a commemorative landmark.

These projects reflect the diverse ways slate can be used beyond traditional roofing. From bespoke garden features to public monuments, natural slate offers durability, individuality, and a finish that stands the test of time.
